The international students of Jiangsu University welcome the Spring Festival of Dragon Year with a party scheduled on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the fourth canteen of the university. The party hosted by Sesame and Ernest gave the students the enabling environment to enjoy themselves and interact with students from other nations.
Among the university’s dignitaries who graced the occasion were Mr Jiang, deputy director of the International Office, Mr Huang, deputy director of the Security Department, and all teachers of Overseas Education College (OEC).
The party activities were multi-cultural ranging from Chinese style dumpling making led by Mrs Tang and Mrs Ding, Indian Odissi classical dance, and good shows to African style hip-hop songs and dance. Mrs Wang from OEC opened the party with a well-wishing message after which Mr Caleb from Ghana opened the performances. There was so much excitement and fun when Miss Poorvi from India gave the classical Indian dance to entertain the audience in her carefully chosen apparel. Additionally, Irfan and group choreographed an Indian song. Mr Muhammed from Jordan sent everybody else to his country when he played music about Jordan through his computer.
The Jiangsu provincial singing award winners, two sisters from Rwanda, Cynthia and Cherise, also performed a popular music ‘One love, let get together and feel alright’. Festus and Daniel did their best by giving us raps and romantic songs respectively. The most intriguing aspect of the party were the games where international students used Chinese chopping sticks to pick flour-made pebbles and the face-flour and pick a coin with your tongue adventure. The party was not complete without the wonderful and interesting Chinese story narrated in Chinese by Mr Zhong and interpreted word-for-word in English by a Ghanaian named Godwin.
All functionalities received a gift ranging from cash to mini and medium size lucky dolls. The Dean and Vice-Dean of OEC closed the ceremony with their well wishing message after their business trip from Consulate General of India in Shanghai.
Wish all of us a happy life in the lucky Dragon Year, 2012!
